Book us for your speaking event
Eating disorders, intuitive eating, health at every size, and holistic nutrition are topics that affect a large number of people. Learning about nutrition in a way that doesn’t create shame, guilt, and restriction has wide-reaching benefits.
Liz Brinkman and her team of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists at On the Brink Nutrition Collective are seasoned and engaged speakers with a heartfelt storytelling style that will make your group feel seen, heard, and empowered. Even complicated topics about food and body feel safe and connected through her honest and humorous way of communicating.
The RDs at On the Brink Nutrition Collective are the perfect speakers for corporate wellness events, professional development for health practitioners, and women-focused personal or professional associations.
Our Selection of Topics
The following topics highlight our deepest expertise. We’re prepared to offer these topics through keynote speeches, workshops, or a hybrid.
Understanding and Supporting Emotional Eating
Diet culture LOVES to vilify emotional eating. But what if emotional eating was really just a clue about other unmet needs? We want to help you bring curiosity and compassion to broaden your understanding of emotional eating.
We Cover:
How emotional experience and body sensations influence hunger and fullness
A supportive framework to help you navigate emotional eating
Simple tools to help you check in with and cope with your emotions
Self-care and coping strategies
Food and Body Image Issues for Teens
The teenage years are a time for emotional and physical changes. Teens can often become unhappy or self-conscious about their appearance. Their bodies and eating habits become projects to “fix”. We want to be a voice that speaks the truth and gives teenagers a sense of choice. We seek to provide a comfortable, non-judgmental space for teens (and the key attachment figures in their lives) to explore their personal issues with beauty, health, nutrition, and identity. These are spaces where you will also investigate the larger context of why so many people in this country hate their bodies and what we can do to make positive change— individually and together.
We cover:
Body changes during puberty
Messages about beauty
Fad Diets
How to reclaim health
Practicing self-care
Declaring your own authentic beauty
Raising Intuitive Eaters
One of the most common concerns we hear from parents is ‘How can I make sure I don’t pass my issues with food/body image on to my kids”.
We love to support parents in an experiential and educational format to raise kids who have a happy and healthy relationship with food and their bodies.
We cover:
Basic nutrition information on each age + stage of feeding.
Equip parents and caregivers with skills and knowledge that will make feeding children less stressful and easier (setting up a positive mealtime framework).
Learning and practicing conversations about food and bodies that help without harming
Tools for overcoming selective eating (some say picky, but we can talk about intentional language).
Conversations about self-compassion for parents when mealtime ends with feelings of failure.
Put parents and caregivers at ease by adding humor, normalizing feeding/table-time challenges (cheerios in noses, tantrums, and spoon-throwing), and connecting over shared fears/concerns.
Shedding light on the effects of Diet Culture and social media/image management on the stories we tell ourselves about our children's eating habits.
Weight Stigma in Healthcare
Weight stigma is unfair and unjustified, it creates health disparities and hampers healthcare and public health efforts. Our team would love to help you and your healthcare group increase awareness of weight bias in healthcare settings and help you to make your space and your approach size-inclusive.
We cover:
Review of the body of research that looks at weight-inclusive care and potential consequences of weight-focused interventions
Compare and contrast a weight-centric approach to a weight-inclusive approach
Why BMI is BS
How to help clients without harping on weight: Introduce the concept of Health at Every Size (HAES) to shift to weight-inclusive, culturally competent care
Review of pathologizing and stigmatizing language.
Red flags for fear-based language or hidden diet culture messaging
